- Phase transitions in porous materials under shock loading.
- Abstract
- The measure of the phase transition pressure at different temperatures under shock loading gives an important information about the material and its phase diagram. The simple way to increase the temperature under loading includes the use of porous samples. The transition pressure can be determined from registered two-wave structure shock profile with further measurement of the amplitude of the first wave. But with the increase of porosity to certain degree the two-wave structure can disappear. And it becomes impossible to measure the transition pressure from shock wave profile. Another method to determine the pressure is the registration of onset transition kink on the Hugoniot. The kink always exists when the phase transition takes place. It might be very small or invisiable because of error in pressure and specific volume (density) values. However with the proton radiography technique it might be possible to construct the Hugoniot with more accuracy by means of direct measuring of density and shock wave velocity and to detect the Hugoniot kink at specified high temperature.
